Arliemoor is a large farmhouse standing in 10 acres of land. Its owners are Jackie and Dave Rowe who live in the house along with up to eight residents some of whom come from North Devon, although people from farther afield are also welcomed.

Each resident has an individual bed-sitting room with views over the extensive gardens and countryside: all rooms are equipped with furniture, bedding and television but residents may bring their own furnishings if they prefer. The house also has two sitting rooms, one for people who wish to smoke, but all other areas are "non-smoking." Dining and kitchen areas are communal for both residents and staff and facilities for making drinks are available at all times.

Residents of Arliemoor are encouraged (though by no means compelled) to help with the day to day running of the house, including the planning and preparation of meals and other daily activities. Choice of meals is generally "resident led" and most preferences can be catered for including diabetic diets, vegetarian and gluten free meals, and special meals for people who require diets connected with their religious or cultural backgrounds.

An Arliemoor breakfast is typically a "help yourself" affair with cereals, porridge, toast, tea and coffee available for everyone. Lunch usually consists of soup, sandwiches, toasted snacks and drinks. Dinner is always a cooked meal in the evening at which everyone usually eats together, because the whole ethos of Arliemoor is that we function as an ordinary family household as far as we can. Naturally, people who want to be quiet can take their meals separately.

Maintaining a family-like atmosphere is a really important aspect of what we try to provide at Arliemoor. Our residents are encouraged to discover what they want from life while they stay with us and we try to support them unobtrusively and yet consistently. We have our own transport to increase residents' access to all community facilities including swimming, yoga, computer studies, fishing, further education and  visits to mental health professionals and local doctors. We don't charge for transport because it's what families usually provide.
